NDIS Community Participation & Social Support – Western Sydney

Building Confidence, Connections and Community Inclusion

At Skillwise Disability Services, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to be active, social, and connected. Our NDIS community participation supports help participants explore interests, build relationships, and gain confidence while engaging in meaningful activities.

This Core Support is ideal for individuals who want assistance to access social, recreational, or community opportunities due to physical, intellectual, or psychosocial disability. Our support workers provide encouragement and practical help so participants can take part safely and independently.

Support may include attending events, joining programs, visiting local facilities, and developing everyday skills needed to interact in public settings. We focus on creating positive experiences that strengthen communication, independence, and social inclusion.

Every activity is tailored to personal preferences, goals, and comfort levels.

We work closely with families and support coordinators to ensure consistent and enjoyable participation. Our team follows NDIS guidelines while promoting choice, confidence, and community involvement. With Skillwise, participants build stronger networks and a greater sense of belonging.

NDIS Community Participation Life Skills

  • 🗣 Social Confidence

Build comfort in meeting new people, starting conversations, and participating in group environments.

  • 🚌 Travel Training

Develop skills to use public or private transport safely and confidently to reach community destinations.

  • 🎯 Hobbies & Interests

Explore personal interests such as sports, arts, fitness, or recreation while building routine and independence.

  • 🧭 Navigating Public Spaces

Gain confidence visiting shops, libraries, cafes, and events while understanding safety and community awareness.

We support participants to practise real-world skills that make community involvement easier and more enjoyable.

With encouragement from experienced staff, individuals build independence, strengthen social awareness, and feel more confident exploring new environments. Small successes lead to greater participation over time.

FAQ Question

  • Q.What kinds of community activities can Skillwise support me to access?

We support access to almost any community activity — events, classes, clubs, sport, arts, libraries, cafes, transport, shopping, and more. If it's something you're interested in, let's talk about how to make it happen.

  • Q.Is community participation support the same as group activities?

Not exactly. Community participation is individual support for you to access activities in the broader community — often 1:1 with a support worker. Group activities (see our centre-based program) involve attending sessions with other participants. Both are valuable and can complement each other.

  • Q.How is this funded in my NDIS plan?

Community participation is funded under Core Supports (line item 04_104_0125_6_1). Most NDIS plans include this category for participants with relevant disability and goals.

  • Q.Can this support include transport to activities?

Yes. Getting to and from activities is often part of the support. We can also help you learn to use public transport independently if that's one of your goals.

  • Q.Does Skillwise support participants across all of Western Sydney?

We primarily serve Rooty Hill, Blacktown, and Mount Druitt, with support available in surrounding suburbs. Contact us to check availability in your area.

  • Q.Can I choose the activities I want to do?

Absolutely. Your goals and interests drive everything. We'll work with you — and your family or support coordinator if you'd like — to identify activities that are meaningful and motivating to you.
